Integrated Maths ProjectIn January 2016 the Integrated Maths Programme funded by Comic Relief UK started in the Northern Cape and Western Cape.
This project is implementing Technology Assisted Learning to improve the quality of Maths Education. Project scope: • Duration: 36 months • Training and support • Independent evaluation • Northern Cape & Western Cape: 32 schools, youth development, 4 districts
The sustained and widespread change to practice as reported by teachers (participating on this Project) between 2016 and 2017, is encouraging in light of the many failed education reform initiatives that have been attempted in the past two decades in South Africa. |
District Standardized Maths Assessment Roll-outReal time, ongoing feedback is vital for all education system stakeholders.
Green Shoots partners with Education Districts to impact the maximum number of Primary school learners. Per learner, weekly progress data from the classroom is aggregated to allow the identification of both issues with Maths learning and wider systemic issues. Stakeholders; teachers, school managements and District officials; can then collaborate to design strategies and interventions to tackle major learning barriers or target specific learner interventions. (Now completed) Credible, real-time feedback from the classroom and learner analytics allows us to identify learning barriers and learners who are struggling. This data can inform the planning of our interventions and support strategies. The use of technology means that data is available with minimal admin for our teachers. District Standardised Maths Assessments
The Michael and Susan Dell Foundation provided a grant for Green Shoots to work with an Education District to deliver blended online Maths Assessments with real-time learning analytics to grades 3 -7.
Green Shoots partners with four Education Districts and supports schools in 8 Districts overall. |
GlobalGivingAs I watched from the back of the room, a boy suddenly pumped his fist in the air with a loud, "Yes!" and the biggest smile on his face. He had just completed a set of math exercises and had received positive feedback from the program - a good score, a score that he could be proud of, a score that gave him self-confidence and motivated him to do even better." Chi Nguyen, In-The-Field Global Giving Representative Donations from individuals and companies worldwide have allowed Green Shoots to provide support to 3 Primary Schools in the Cape Town Metropole.
